Drake and Cardi Did NOT Have to Boost My Head Like that!!!
The glow up is real and in full effect! And Drake my dude, my dude, MY DUUUUUDE has proven that the glow up is a season to be honored. With lyrics like “ Had a man last year, life goes on. Haven’t let that thing loose, girl in so long.” You could not tell me he was not talking about me. I’ve sat in the mirror, the car, the shower, the gym, and on the couch and rocked out to these lyrics this whole weekend. Dancing and screaming, “HOW DO YOU KNOW MY LIFE DRAKE?”
In each.and.every.one.of these places. Drake gave me the empowerment that a whole Beyonce cd fully loaded with the DVD of videos and added commentary has given me, IN THIS ONE SONG. Then he had the nerve to put a BOUNCE beat in the bridge? Drake, what is you dooooiiiinnnn baby? Do you not want us to give these negroes a chance this summer??? Sheeeeesh!!! Nice for what? Drake, because I’m nice, that’s why I’ve been being nice. (I’m sorry he made me feel like I needed to explain myself, LOL) But he has made this glow up season so official for all the SINGLE LADIES, ALL THE SINGLE LADIES. Letting us know what we’ve all known for years, but been too afraid to act on, WOMEN HOLD THE POWER. And we don’t have to be nice, if we don’t want to. He drove this point home when he added “it’s a real one, in your reflection, without a follow, without a mention.” Letting ME KNOW, I’m the ish, without social media likes or views, without anyone noticing. Even if I really am piping up on these ni**as. ;-) LOL.
But Drake wasn’t the only song on repeat this weekend, I’ve added that along with “Best Life” by Cardi B, and Chance the Rapper to every playlist I listen to in a day, from working out to cleaning. I’ve been living my best life this year, not even being where I want to financially, or physically. But I’ve worked on bettering myself as a person, and have been doing so much work on myself, that these lyrics tug on my heart strings.
““I was in the field, man, I slaved for this (yeah)
Had to talk to God, dropped down, and prayed for this
To my surprise, He replied, said, “You made for this””
The grind has been nonstop for Cardi. With everyone referring to having their best year by saying “This will be my Cardi B year”, she has turned into a diamond under all the pressure and scrutiny she’s been under this last year. We all just want to be like Cardi B when we glow up.
“Turned all my L’s into lessons”
Chance sings the lyrics that hit the nail on the head for every season of life for anyone. We all just want to turn our losses into lessons. And I don’t know about you, but that’s definitely what I’m doing right.
Both Drake and Cardi have given me vibes so high I’m afraid to come down. I’m appreciative of the gift that God has given them both. The gift to lyrically touch lives and relate to their audience. Maaaaannnnnn…. Let me take a moment of silence for all of those negro’s feelings I’m going to kill after these two have boosted my head this Spring season. :)
