listen to the kids.

listen to the kids.

The past 24 hours Facebook and Twitter feeds have been in an uproar over55e3c4011d00002f0014646c the Yeezus VMA speech addressing what some have been calling a confusing  acceptance speech (IT MADE PERFECT SENSE TO ME!).  So many people say they do not like Mr. West and his egotistical ways, and he even speaks on 60,000 people booing him, however I am 100% sure I wasn’t the only one sitting on my living room couch feeling like Jaden Smith as Kanye gave his Vanguard acceptance speech. I cried a little . . . DO NOT JUDGE ME! Now anybody who knows me, knows that my love for Kanye Omari West exceeds a fan girl crush, and I can admit my excitement for Kanye is a bit odd. With the exception of my brother and sister, nobody really gets it. (I will not even tell yall how I acted at the Yeezus concert). I am always in awe when he produces something new or goes off on a rant because he so eloquently speaks the truth. I can  identify with Kanye’s lyrics and I definitely was able to identify wpid-wp-1441037987990.jpgwith last night’s speech. I even identified with his expressions and could instantly recognise his emotions. For example him not being able to speak when he first reached the stage because of his awe of acceptance. Or being so passionate about something that you cant express yourself (I go through this one a lot). These are some of my favorite quotes, some of them I live by, and some of them are things that I try to express through my blog. Kanye is always trying to get others to see the bigger picture and some of these qoutes are deeper then just being confused about how award shows are ran.

“I still don't understand award shows. I don't understand how they get 5 people who have worked there entire life. One sold records and sold concert tickets, stand on a red carpet and for the first time in their life be judged on a chopping block and be considered a loser. I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT BRO”

We all know this has been an issue for Yeezus since Taylor beat Beyonce years ago. However, Kanye sees that it is more than just award shows with a faulty system (listen to albums College Dropout thru Yeezus). I think Kanye chose to specifically talk about award shows because 1. It was an award show and 2. the people aren’t ready for him to rant about other institutions with the same flawed complex. People don't like to think past music videos and entertainment, why not start here.

“I just wanted people to like me. . . but f*ck it Bro"

I know I am not the only one with this feeling some time (whether u want to admit it or not) but it sometime stops us from doing what we really want or even worst from being ourselves. wpid-wp-1441037099688.gif

"I will die for the art, for what I believe, and the art ain't always gone be polite."

OR pretty! Think about Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" or poems and stories written during slavery and civil rights. Nothing about that form of art was pretty or polite but they had art to share and a story to tell. The "kids" have a point to get across and we are going to do it and it may not be polite.

“Did he smoke something before he came out here. The answer is yes I rolled a little something to take the edge off."

It be like that, at least he was honest.

"We are the millennials. This is a a new mentality!"

"We are not going to control our kids with brands."

"All I can say to my fellow artist is just worry about how you feel at the time.."

"It’s not about me it’s about ideas bro! New ideas! People with ideas and who believe in the truth!”

I talk to my friends who are cratives like me and it really is a hermit lifestyle if you are not couragous and bold like Kanye West. The last two quotes really had me fist up like Jaden and touched me the most. This quote represents not only me but what my blog is about. Sharing ideas, motivating others to share thier ideas, and bringing the truth and creativity while doing it! Do what makes you happy and remember how happy you were while doing it! The world will give their opinion and tell you, you are a looser, and have you crying like Justin Timberlake, but remember how it made you feel.
