There are people out there looking to give away money.
Did you know The Shade Room started with a $5,000 grant awarded to the CEO, Angelica Nwandu, right after being fired from her accounting job? She used the funds to support herself as she focused on her passion, writing and building her Instagram-based platform to now 15 MILLION followers.
Here you can find micro-grants, seed funding, and a few grants with no strings attached for entrepreneurs, women, emerging artists, photographers, or just someone with an idea. Below is a list of ways to get money for your next idea, event, series, or business, and there is at least one grant for you! There are waaaay more grants available out there, but these you can apply for TODAY(or soon)!

Artist Grants
Specto - Anything Art Grant
Application Period: Once they receive 30 applications
Amount: $250 - $500
App Fee: $35
Specto Art Space, an art gallery in Virginia, offers this unrestricted art grant to help artists with all the expenses involved with creating great art. It also allows winning artists to be included in the gallery’s shows and promotional materials.

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant
No Deadline
Amount: $15k
The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation gives grants for emerging artists to develop their skills in artistic expression. Applicants must be 18 or older, in an early or developmental stage of their work, and be able to show a commitment to making art their lifetime career. Art disciplines including representational style painting, drawing, sculpting or printmaking

Artist Grant
Application Deadlines: April 15, July 15, and October 15.
Amount: $500
App Fee: $25
Visual artists working in any media may apply: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, stills of video/film, sculpture (of any type of material), ceramics, mixed/multiple medias, installation, and other new or alternative medias. They do not accept submissions for music, theatre, or dance.

Sustainable Arts Foundation Awards

Amount: Up to $5k
This foundation aims to support artists with families by providing financial awards to parents that are pursuing creative work. Parents often put aside their creative impulses to meet the demands of raising a family, so the foundation’s goal is to encourage parents to continue with their creative passions.

Project Launch Grant
Application Deadline: February 20, 2019
Amount: $5k
This artist grant is offered by CENTER, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and providing opportunities for gifted photographers. It is awarded to photographers that have either a completed or nearly completed project that would benefit from some financial support. The recipient also has their work published on Lenscratch, and gets to participate in an exhibition at The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts in North Carolina.

Integrity Arts & Culture Association Mini-Grants
Application Deadline: February 19, 2019
Amount: $250
App fee: $10
IACA Mini-Grants generally average $250, and are intended to assist with such things as: art supplies, recording studio time, exhibits, performances, project related expenses, etc. This is our way of planting seeds that we believe will continue to grow. This program was started in honor of every artist who has ever impacted the life of another.

The Aaron Siskind Foundation is offering a limited number of Individual Photographer's Fellowship grants of up to $10,000 each, for artists working in photography and photo-based art.

VSCO Voices is a six month grant program run by VSCO and Access Ventures. The program supports creators who make art to empower marginalized communities in the United States. Receive $20,000 in funding and the mentorship you need to carry out a creative project that provides a platform for untold stories.

IACA Non-Profit Mini-Grant Program

IACA Mini-Grants for organizations generally average $350 and are intended to assist with the following: artistic programs that engage the community; projects that involve educating youth in the arts; services for artists; leadership training that will increase an arts organization's strength and capacity for the long term, etc.This is their way of planting seeds that they believe will continue to grow.

Open Meadows Foundation

Open Meadows is specifically looking to direct its resources towards changing the world. Looking for projects focused on activism, political change, and empowerment directed by, and benefiting women and girls. Examples include projects focused on: Standing Rock, boycotts, marches, creation of new activist organizations, labor rights, community organizing, voting rights, environmental activism, economic rights, and other forms of political action encouraging participation by women and girls for women and girls.

Professional Development and Artistic Planning
Application Deadline: 60 days prior to the activities
Amount: $1k
South Arts offers a limited number of Professional Development and Artistic Planning grants to nonprofit performing, visual, media/film, multidisciplinary and literary arts presenting organizations in our nine-state region with support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Funding up to $1,000 is available to support the professional development needs of Southern presenters/programmers/curators, strengthen program design, and increase organizational capacity. Professional Development and Artistic Planning applications must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the activities. All activities must take place between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019.
